This policy outlines The Sumaira Foundation’s (TSF) approach to coverage and reimbursement of indirect costs and related salaries, sometimes described as overhead or facilities & administrative costs, for any initiatives, projects, partnerships or collaborations we fund, including but not limited to research grants, clinical trials, collaborative research activities, research-related service arrangements, and other activities we pursue in furtherance of TSF’s objectives. This policy applies to all companies, corporations, organizations and institutions, whether for-profit or non-profit, and the investigators and other employees employed by said entities, receiving funding from TSF for external initiatives and projects.
As a small, non-profit patient advocacy foundation focused on rare neuroimmune and related disorders, TSF endeavors to maximize the impact of all our initiatives, including any research grants and awards we make available to external organizations. It has therefore been TSF’s long-standing policy to ensure all our research funding is fully allocated to the direct costs attributable to each research-related initiative we support financially. TSF will not, as a general rule, reimburse any indirect costs associated with any project we fund externally.
TSF’s indirect cost reimbursement policy ensures that the limited funding TSF has available is fully and directly utilized to advance TSF priorities and projects in the interest of the patient and caregiver communities we serve. This policy also ensures consistency and fairness across all external projects and partners TSF funds. It is also consistent with the policies of the funding agencies and other entities that provide financial support to TSF. Lastly, our policy also enables TSF to provide transparency and accountability on how our donor and grant funding is utilized.
